SEMESTER  IV

WEEKEND REFLECTION ON TEACHING PRACTICE

FROM NOVEMBER 14,2016 TO JANUARY 31,2017 

NOVEMBER 14,2016 - NOVEMBER 18,2016

         It was the first week of our second phase of teaching practice. The starting day of our teaching practice was really a good day, it was Children's Day and above that this day is also treated as World Diabetes Day. There was a procession led by the school NSS volunteers on behalf of the World Diabetes Day. 

         There was regular staff meeting and other meetings during the week with regards to the tour programme for plus two students. Tour programme was decided to be conducted for plus two students. There are two science batch, two humanities batch and three commerce batch. At last it was decided that the students of three commerce batch and two science batch would have their tour on 18/11/2016 (Friday) and the two humanities batch would have their tour programme on next Friday, i.e; 25/11/2016.

         I had also got an opportunity to join the tour with the first group, i.e; with plus two commerce and science students, as there was lack of lady teachers to join them. It was really a wonderful experience for me. We departed from the school at 6:00 am on 18/11/2016 and reached Wonder la at 10:15 am. In between we had our breakfast at Cherthala. Then after entering Wonder La all the students and teachers went for various rides and had lunch at Valley View Restaurant at Wonder La itself. And after lunch again all went for rides. Then we departed from there at 6:30 pm and went to Lulu Mall and had our dinner at a restaurant near Lulu Mall. Then we entered Lulu Mall at 7:30 pm and had some purchasing over there and had watched a movie "SWARNA KADUVA" at the theater in Lulu Mall. And left Lulu Mall at 2:00 pm and arrived back at school at 5:00 am on 19/11/2016 (Saturday). It was really an unforgettable  experience for me. 

 

 

 

            This week I had taken only three classes. I had used certain strategies like general discussion, group discussion and observation of charts, etc. In the first classes I was not able to maintain eye contact but later it was improved.

NOVEMBER 21,2016 - NOVEMBER 25,2016

        This week we had a special assembly on Wednesday (23/11/2016) in which a "LOGO PUBLICATION" was done as part of the Shatabdi Aghosham by eminent persons of the locality. The Shatabdi Aghosham was decided to be conducted on 28/11/2016 (Monday), notices were published and were distributed to all. We had a staff meeting regarding how to conduct the program in a good way. In the meeting it was decided that in the next week the school campus should be cleaned with the efforts of all teachers and students. The decoration of the front view of the school would be done by the B.Ed trainees.

      

       On 25/11/2016, the principal had announced that the Shatabdi Aghosham had been postponed due to harthal on 28/11/2016 (Monday). And the new date will be declred later on.

        This week I was able to take classes on all days. The classes were good and I was able to achieve my objectives. Some office works were also given to me. I was also asked to prepare the question paper of Business Studies - plus one class for Christmas examination, which I had prepared and given to Biju Koshy Sir. 

NOVEMBER 28,2016 - DECEMBER 2,2016

         This week we had no extra curricular activities at school.

This week I had took 4 classes as per lesson plan. All the classes were good but sometimes I felt there was lack of management skill. But as an overall view it can be said that the classes were good and effective. In between Biju Sir also came to observe my classes. This week I was able to complete the chapter "Private, public and global enterprises" and to start with the new chapter "Social responsibilities of business and business ethics" .

       This week Sumam teacher has came to observe the class and I had took the topic "Meaning and needs of social responsibility".  The class was good but had made some small mistakes.

       This week was really good for me.

 

DECEMBER 5,2016 - DECEMBER 9,2016

        This week we had one holiday due to the death of the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalitha on 6/12/2016 (Tuesday). We had an assembly on (07/12/2017) Wednesday in which it was declared that our school, i.e; GBHSS, Adoor has got First prize in "SUB-JILLA KALOLSAVAM" and it was also said it was really a golden feather in the crown of the school to attain such a prize in this Shatabdi year. A group photo of the students who had won prize in the kalolsavam had been taken along with the teaching staff.

       On 08/12/2016 (Thursday) there was a program named "Haritha Keralam" due to which there was no classes. The whole day there was campus cleaning and all. The member of the nearby panchayat had planted a Thulasi plant at the ring road beside the school as part of Haritha Keralam Program, on behalf of the NSS volunteers and in presence of Principal and other teaching staffs.

  

       On 09/12/2016 (Friday) ther was a program related to the publication of the monthly magazine "DEEPAMKURAM" which is the contributions of the students and teachers. It is a handwritten magazine. Every month this magazine is published to develop the creativity of the higher secondary students and teachers. Along with the publication students who had won prizes in shastramela, sports, etc were given certificates and prizes.

       Gopala Krishnan Sir has came to observe my class of Yoga. I had took class on Yoga related to two asanas - Padmasana and Shalabhasana. Then sir has also asked me to demonstrate Vrikshasana. Then a game was also played as recreation to the students. The name of the game was "Snatching the kerchief".

       This week I had took 4 classes as per lesson plan. The classes were good, as the days were moving on I was also able to overcome my drawbacks as per my viewpoint. This week was also very good for me as had opportunity to attend all the programs conducted at school and to gain knowledge regarding it. 

DECEMBER 12,2016 - DECEMBER 23,2016

       These two weeks we were provided leave due to our third semester exams and the Christmas exams being conducted at school.

DECEMBER 26,2016 - JANUARY 2,2017

      Holidays of Christmas. But had attended NSS Camp held at Ezhankulam LP School. It was a camp for seven days. I had attended two days camp and stayed there at night also. It was really a good experience. There were 50 students in the camp and other teachers also. The students were provided classes of various eminent personalities. They prepared food themselves with the help of a cook. The cook himself was an artist, a good personality. The students engaged in various activities such as cleaning the school compound, playing games, etc. Each day certain duties were allotted to different group of students. For me it was really an unforgettable experience. 

 

JANUARY 3,2017 - JANUARY 6,2017

          The school re-opened after the Christmas vacation on 3/01/2017. And this whole week we had no classes as the "JILLA KALOLSAVAM" was being conducted at our school. On the first day we had procession and all and then continued with various entertaining programs of students. These days we were provided with various duties.

JANUARY 9,2017 - JANUARY 13,2017

       

       The whole week we had regular classes. I used various strategies to help the students to easily understand and grasp the concepts.In addition to the normally used strategies like general discussion, group, discussion, observation of pictures and charts I also used some sort of games and help the students to maintain a competitive mind and to improve their creativity and explore ideas.

JANUARY 16,2017 - JANUARY 20,2017

     This week most of the teachers were absent as they had went to kannur for attending kalolsavam along with the participants. On january 16,2017 a class of election commission was conducted. It was led by the Village Officer of Adoor Taluk in the presence of Tahasildar and Deputy Tahasildar of Adoor Taluk. it was a good class. They helped the students to know about the importance of voting, how to register themselves to get an election identity card,etc.  .

            On january 17, I was able to attend the practice of model parliament by the students. The practice was under the supervision of Najeem sir and Deepa teacher. It was really good. It seemed to be like an orginal Parliament. The practice was done for attending a competition to be held on Friday (January 20).

On January 18, a special class was taken on the topic "Drug abuse". It was taken by Mr. C. V. Vijayakumar, excise officer. It was also a good class. it provided the students great knowledge about the bad impacts of using drugs, alcohol, etc. He shared some of his experience with the students. At last he asked the students to take a pledge not to use any such drugs in their life.

This week I was able to complete my portions. I took classes based on blended learning strategies which was really interesting and the responses on the part of students were also good as compared to other classes. i also used strategies such as general discussion, group discussion and observation methods and also used powerpoint presentations to support the learning.

JANUARY 23,2017 - JANUARY 28,2017

            In this week there was regular classes only on 23/01/2017 (Monday) and on 27/01/2017 (Friday). Tuesday there was a private bus strike, so almost all the students were absent and the classes ended up at 12:30 pm and all the students were sent home. But we, the teachers left the school only at 3:00 pm. On Wednesday there was a cluster meeting for higher secondary teachers, so it was declared as a holiday for Higher secondary school students.

           On 26/01/2017 (Thursday), we had celebrated Republic Day in our school. All the NCC, NSS and some other students and teachers came to the school in the morning and hoisted the flag at 8:30 am. The flag was hoisted by the Gireesh sir (Senior Higher Secondary Sir) and the staff secretary of high school section. Then there was some speeches made by the teaching staffs and others. At last the students were given chocolates and sent home at 11:00 am

          On 27/01/2017 (Friday) we had a special assembly as part of the  "POTHUVIDYABHYASA SAMRAKSHANA YAGNAM". In the assembly it was announced that all the students who went for State level Kalolsavam had got "A" grade and also given certificates to the participants. Then there was  meeting with regard to it and the parents and teachers took an oath to protect the government and aided schools for the future generations.

         In the afternoon session there was a competition related to "MODAL PARLIAMMENT". The students under the guidance of Najeem Sir had presented a modal Parliament in a very effective way. It was really a good experience to be a part of it and visualize it. Judges came from outside. They were very much pleased with the performance and congratulated the students.

         On 28/01/2017 (Saturday), I was asked to report at school as I was provided with an exam duty related to "SUGAMA HINDI PARIKSHA" conducted by the "KERALA HINDI PRACHARA SABHA, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM". The exams were conducted for plus one and plus two students. It was an exam for 3 hours, i.e; from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. At last Raji teacher has given me Rs.100/- as the supervision fee.

        This week I had took classes with and without lesson plan. As I have completed my portions earlier I was asked to take some more chapters without lesson plan but I tried to add more and more examples while teaching and thus the students were able to uunderstand the concepts easier. I had also conducted achievement test and gave the marks to students. The performance in achievement test was good.

JANUARY 30,2017 - JANUARY 31,2017

         This week we were provided extra as there were many programs and the classes were not taken. And there was also holidays due to many reasons we were provided two extra days.

      

      On 30/1/2017 we had conducted a conscientization program at school on the topic " MEDIA ABUSE AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE" . We had shown 3 documentary films and also lead a discussion with the students to help them know more about the evils in our society and to take wise actions immediately. 

 

            This week Gopala Krishnan Sir had came to observe our class on health education. I had took the topic "Fracture,its types and first aid for fracture". 
   
     On 31/01/2017 I had distributed laddu's to students and teachers and there was also a sent off meeting by the Principal and other teaching staff members.
    
     Thus, the teaching practices had been ended up with so many memorable moments in life. Really these experiences were unforgettable in my life.
